Build more houses

Londoners are facing a housing crisis.

Young people are spending more than half their salary on rent. People are seeing their mortgage costs soar. Council homes are scarce. After eight years of this Mayor, there were fewer new housing starts in London last year than in 2016.

My plan of action

My pledge to you

As Liberal Democrat Mayor, I will focus on:

  • Back new housing of all types and monitor private as well as social builds
  • Fight for renters to ensure we continue to strengthen their rights
  • Work with councils to deliver more homes more quickly
  • Creating thriving communities

This means:

  • Creating a London-wide Housing development company
  • Pressuring national government to abolish residential leasehold
  • Prioritising apprenticeships and training to retrofit for warm homes - saving money and tackling climate change
  • Establishing a fire safety victims’ support line
  • Working to release more land owned by Transport for London and other bodies.
