Following the Government announcing a Business Rate Relief Package of 15% for pubs, the London Liberal Democrats have joined calls for the Chancellor to extend this scheme to the tourism sector.

In a letter, they cite the years of economic neglect family-run tourism attractions have suffered through, leaving many facing enormous bills with zero rescue funding.

Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park and the party’s Business Spokesperson Sarah Olney said:

“Tourism makes a huge contribution to our economy here in London, yet family-run businesses have suffered through years of neglect. With costs spiralling out of control, the industry simply cannot afford the hammer blow of these business rate hikes.

“The Chancellor is picking winners and losers with this half-baked relief package. We need an emergency VAT cut now to protect the entire hospitality sector before it collapses."
