Lift London: Childcare Costs

The rising cost of living is hitting many Londoners. 

But add in the cost of looking after children, and it can become incredibly difficult to make ends meet. 

Across London, families are telling us the same thing. 

Nursery places can be hard to find, and childcare costs are so high that many parents are paying well over £1,400 a month for each child. 

For some, working simply doesn't seem to pay.  

Parents are taking on overtime, working evenings or weekends, or juggling two jobs just to cover the bills. 

And sadly, that often means spending less time with the people they are working so hard to provide for. 

No parent should have to choose between earning a living and being there for their children. 

London needs more affordable childcare, more nursery places and better support that gives parents genuine choices. Investing in early years doesn't just help children get the best possible start in life – it helps parents work, businesses recruit and our communities thrive.
