Failing Thames Water needs to get a grip

Responding to Thames Water outages across south west London and Surrey, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey MP said: 

"Thousands of households across South London and Surrey waking up this morning with no running water is yet another example of Thames Water failing its customers.

"Thames Water is already the worst water company in England and Wales for leaky pipes - losing an average of 592 million litres every single day. Meanwhile, 28% of customers' bills goes straight to servicing the company's debt, not fixing the crumbling infrastructure that is now failing them.

"The final whistle needs to be blown on Thames Water, and Burnham needs to get a grip."

Luke Taylor, the Liberal Democrat MP for Sutton and Cheam, added:

“We are numb to the appalling failure of Thames Water to fix our creaking infrastructure. Enough is enough!" 

"Every day Thames Water loses 228 Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of water through leaks. 228. Most of the time this slow drip of leaks across London costs us money and wastes energy, but today the huge burst pipe in West Molesey means carers can’t wash their loved ones, businesses are shut and schools are closed.

“Thames Water is no longer fit for purpose, I will keep doing everything in my power to get the government to see sense, take control, put them into special administration, and restructure them”.
