Dangerous wall collapses in Hanger Hill after eighteen months of delay!
On Saturday 14 Feb 2026, if you were near Greystoke Court on Hanger Lane or in Hanger Hill Park you may have heard a loud crash as an unstable wall collapsed. The wall finally gave way after 18 months of dithering by Ealing Labour in addressing the issue. Emergency services were in attendance and luckily no one was injured.
Local Lib Dem Councillor Athena Zissimos has been pursuing the matter and chasing the council for action, updates and progress. As a local councillor she is also aware that there is also the possibility that further damage could be caused, through a soakaway nearby, which is also in danger of collapsing and creating a huge hole in Hanger Hill Park. The soakaway issue remains a significant problem with more rain forecast in the next few days.
Getting the Council to understand that there was a problem in the first place took some time! Once that was accepted, it took the Borough so long to co-ordinate the various parties for permissions to do basic remedial propping up work for the wall (excluding the subsequent repairs required) that the wall collapsed.
Councillor Athena Zissimos, Portfolio Environment, Streets, Parks and Climate Change said: “Ealing Liberal Democrats have been pursuing this matter over that last year and half. I am appalled that Ealing Labour have not addressed this matter in a timelier fashion due to the dangers and potential impact on public safety and residents. An engineers report outlined the danger of the wall, and the continual rain has not helped matters. The Council’s response has been so slow and lacked urgency. It is lucky that no one was injured. Ealing Liberal Democrats are listening to residents’ concerns and acting on them. Many residents have said they want the Council to get the basics done correctly, including collaborating with others to drive forward better service delivery. This matter should have been addressed more quickly.”
