London LibDem Newbies Meetup September 2015

The latest in our series of monthly meetups, these are inspirational chances to meet LibDem members, new and existing, and form ideas for how we can make a long-term, positive difference to our country.

This month, we have two fantastic speakers, lifting the lid on a vital aspect of political party life.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Policy (But Were Afraid To Ask)

The Liberal Democrat party has just published a “policy consultation paper”. All members, including those who only joined recently, have been invited to submit a response. It is a crucial chance for newbies to shape the party’s future. But what is party policy and what difference does it make?

Baroness Kishwer Falkner is former director of policy for the Liberal Democrats. She can share with us an historical perspective on party policy: are there universal Lib Dem policies? What are the most controversial policies we have adopted in the past? How can our policies shape British politics, when we have so few MPs?

Polly MacKenzie was head of strategic policy when Nick Clegg was the party leader and wrote his speeches. She can reveal to us what role the party leader plays in the policy-making process: does the leader have to agree with all policies? What happens if their vision for the party differs from the members? How did our policy process cope with coalition?

Please put it in your diary and RSVP below to secure a place for you and your friends:
