Helping councils outside London with their important contests on May 2nd.

Winning more councillors and taking control of more councils will be a great news story to give our EU campaign a flying start.  So let's help make that happen!

Our team at HQ have asked us to support these four campaigns which are reasonably easy to reach from London.

St Albans

Here in St Albans we're in a splitting hairs distance of gaining minority control of the District Council. We're fighting more wards than we have ever done, with the intention of gaining eight seats! We have action every single day in next week and we would love it if some lovely Lib Dems from further afield came to help. If we take away majority control from the Tories, it is a great platform to turn St Albans yellow in the next general election!

If you want to get in contact email [email protected] or call 01727 855523. Our office is a ten minute walk from St Albans City Station.

In Chelmsford we have had an amazing campaign, which is continuing to grow on all fronts. In November 2017 at Kickstart we started our plans to take control of the whole Council. In March 2018 at conference we showed Shaun Roberts the progress we had made, and in Summer 2018 HQ decided to get behind our plans to take control of a whole council.

Last Saturday we knocked on 1002 doors (628 people) and the data shows they are moving our way! Vince Cable came to visit last week. Ed Davey and Mark Pack have been recently, and Pete Dollimore has been doing an amazing job producing direct mail - and sometimes driving it to us!

This Saturday (27th) we will have lots to deliver but we particularly want to get round to as many doors as possible from the Shuttleworth, to make sure they are with us for polling day.

If you can come on Saturday - or any other day, especially Polling Day - we would love to see you - and you could help take control of a whole council! That would be an amazing headline.

Please let us know how you can help at [email protected] or Sue Baker on [email protected]

Everything pivots on this year’s Local elections in Winchester.

The Conservatives hold control by only one seat and, with many of their councillors in marginal seats up this year, we are poised to take the Council. To do this we need to gain but we also need to retain our marginals – one such is the St Luke ward. Our current Cllr, Derek Green, has a real fight on his hands with well-known Labour and Tory candidates standing against him.

To help us hold this seat we have an action day coming up on Friday 26th April meeting at 85 Christchurch Road SO23 9QY at 10.15am. If you can’t make Friday we will be working all our defences and targets over the weekend and any help would be greatly appreciated – please contact [email protected].

Getting to Winchester: The easiest way to get from London to Winchester is by train - either from Woking, Clapham Junction or Waterloo - please contact in advance so we can organise transport our end.

Update - Our Knock up VPB for today: A85AF2K-711078

In Bedford Borough Mayor Dave Hodgson is up for re-election and all the council seats are up on the 2nd May. We have been knocking on thousands of doors and delivering a huge amount of leaflets - truly more than we've ever done before.

It's imperative we maintain the Mayoralty as Dave Hodgson is only one of two directly elected Liberal Democrat Mayors in the entire country. We've got 5 target wards with fantastic, hard working candidates which are all looking really promising.

Vince Cable, Ed Davey, Tom Brake and Mark Pack have all visited Bedford recently and were all encouraged (and impressed!) by our campaign. However, the Tories are campaigning even harder than normal and we suspect they have had an influx of outside funds, so we really need all the help we can get.

If you can help any day or evening between now and the 2nd May, please get in contact with our Campaigns Organiser at [email protected], or fill in this online form

Travelling by train: There are regular Thameslink trains directly to Bedford from London Bridge, Blackfriars, St Pancras and other London stations. Alternatively you can take an East Midlands train from St Pancras which takes less than 40 minutes.
