Julie Ireland

Julie_Ireland_headshot_200.jpgJulie Ireland was born in Hackney and moved to West Wickham in Bromley 25 years ago.  She has two children, and became a single parent when her youngest child was just 6 months old.   Being a single parent was the most difficult challenge of her life and the family had some hard times.  As a way of coping she set up her own IT consultancy business so she could work from home while her children were growing up.   During that time she studied with the Open University and achieved a BSc in Information Technology.

Now that her youngest child has started at University Julie is free to revisit some of her personal ambitions that were put on hold while her children were growing up.  Politics has always been her passion and she is a lifelong Liberal but only decided to join and become active with the party in April 2015 to help out in the General Election.  Julie says: “As the size of the defeat became clear I knew that I had to stay and help – if ever there was a time to stand up and defend Liberal Democrat values in the UK it was then.”

Proud to be one of the many thousand “newbies” to join the Liberal Democrats in the last year,  Julie has worked hard with her local party in Bromley since then, and became secretary in January 2016.

She is thrilled to have been appointed LibDem Candidate for the Bromley and Bexley constituency of the London Assembly.   She will work with Caroline Pidgeon, Lib Dem Mayoral candidate, to campaign on some the key issues affecting people across London, particularly housing and transport which are major issues for the people of Bromley and Bexley.
