The Mayor of London recently announced that he is reorganising the structure of the London's police by merging Borough policing organisations into Basic Command Units (BCUs). These plans are poorly thought out and certainly do not take the views of local people into account.
Having trialled this in the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barking & Dagenham, and Havering, the Metropolitan Police's own report said that:
“There was an initial deterioration in response performance following the launch of the new model. Some impact on performance was expected due to the scale of the changes, but the level of service reduction was significantly higher than anticipated”
The Mayor is now rushing headlong into this organisation which will mean less accountable policing, no longer tailored to individual boroughs needs. You can find out what is happening in your local area, and sign our petition against these changes, below.
