Time for 20

20_mph_sign.jpgWe need to highlight the demand across London that exists for creating a safer street environment. One of the most cost effective ways of doing it is widespread 20mph limits. Certain major roads should be exempt, but the default should now be 20mph.

On our roads, too often, it is children and the elderly who are killed or seriously injured as a result of collisions. Lowering the default speed limit will create a more forgiving environment, where mistakes can be made without such terrible consequences.

Will you support our call?

It's time for 20 London

We, the undersigned, call on local councils and the Mayor of London to implement widespread 20mph limits across London, with exceptions made for key routes.

1 Please tell the Liberal Democrat council in Sutton about this policy. 2 Sufficient resources are needed to make sure all speed limits are observed

For the most part this will NOT affect journey times, the amount of time you spend waiting at the next traffic light will though, and everyone will use less fuel

Thank you for this petition, and I wish you well with it. All the more reason why Sutton, as the only Lib Dem council remaining in London, should really support it too. Perhaps you could persuade them?

Key 30 mph routes need stricter controls too, the A22 has a 30 mph limit, but cars dangerously overtake one another and 45 mph is the average actual speed due to no signage or speed cameras. It is a residential area!

I support this ,but I have a question.

How do we enforce this`speed limit. I hear the Police can not enforce it?

Could someone please confirm back to me the current situation with this `speed limit.
