New Year Message 2016

Liberal Democrats in London - pulling out all the stops for our liberal capital to elect Liberal Democrats and vote 'yes' for Europe this year.

chris_and_simon.jpgThe newly elected President and Chair of London Liberal  Democrats have today issued their new year message to the party in London. Sir Simon Hughes and Chris Maines took up their new responsibilities on January 1st.

Sir Simon and Chris Maines say: "At the start of a new year Liberal Democrats in London look ahead to fresh challenges and new opportunities.

"For London Liberal Democrats our first 2016 priority is the London Mayoral and Assembly elections in May. Our team is very ably led by Caroline Pidgeon, who has 8 years experience representing Londoners at City Hall. Caroline is the London Mayoral candidate with the best knowledge of London-wide issues - with an in depth understanding of London's housing crisis, transport issues and policing challenges. Liberal Democrats have a diverse and talented team fighting with Caroline to gain seats on the Greater London Assembly. This is a London-wide election where every vote counts directly to the result, so we are determined to be out among all communities across the capital and call on all supporters to  play a part in a successful campaign.

"Our second priority will be the Euro Referendum expected in 2016.  It is vital for the future prosperity of London that Britain remains a key player in the EU. We are determined to do all we can to galvanise Liberal Democrat supporters to help deliver a Yes vote for staying in the European Union. London Liberal Democrats are the most united pro-European party on this issue . We will do all we can to encourage all British, EU and Commonwealth citizens living in London to play a positive role in securing a yes vote in the referendum.

"We will pull out all the stops to make sure our liberal capital city elects the maximum number of Liberal Democrats to City Hall and votes 'yes' in the Euro referendum this year."
