Caroline Pidgeon announces plan for free wifi on bus and trams

Liberal Democrat Mayoral candidate Caroline Pidgeon today announced plans to have free wifi installed on all London's buses and trams and at bus stops, working with sponsors and commercial partners, as part of her vision for digital London.

London currently has wifi on 0.02% of its bus fleet. The plan would be funded by sponsorship as is the free wifi on London's Tube.key_bus.jpg

"Last year there were over 2.36 billion bus and tram journeys made in London.  Thats a lot of people wanting to access their e-mail, check the internet or use social media.

"Given people in Manchester, Nottingham and Birmingham already enjoy it, there is no reason why bus and tram passengers right across  London should not have access to  free wi-fi. It is clear that this presents a major sponsorship opportunity for a company wanting to reach out to bus users and Transport for London have been far too slow in seeking sponsorship.
"As Mayor I will instruct TfL to get on with finding sponsors and have the service put on all bus and tram routes, not just one or two."
